Course Description
A course designed to introduce the Nursing student to the essential concepts and principles of pharmacology. Included are the concepts of pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutics. There is an emphasis on the application of the nursing process as a practical organizational tool utilized in the care of the patient receiving pharmacological agents.

General Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:
incorporate principles of the nursing process in their understanding of the pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of patient care
utilize nomenclature associated with the study of pharmacology
identify the effects of specific drug groups on body systems
demonstrate knowledge of the patient care provider's role, professionally and legally, in the safe administration of medications

Course Prerequisites and Co requisites: BSC 1085, BSC 1085L, BSC 1086, BSC 1086L
Computer Knowledge and Skills:
Students in this course should be familiar with the following computer skills.
File Management - You should be familiar with finding and saving files on your computer.
The Internet - You should be familiar with connecting to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider or Network Connection.
Web Browser Software - You should be familiar with using web browser software to navigate the Internet and locate information.
Email - You should be familiar with sending and receiving email messages.
Discussions - You should be familiar with posting and reading discussion messages in a threaded format.
Attachments - You should be familiar with sending email messages with attached files.
Word Processing - You should be familiar with creating, editing, saving, and printing documents using Microsoft Word.

Methods of Instruction
This is a 2 credit hour course. This class is taught entirely online with the exception of mandatory on-campus examinations on 3 (three)Sundays and one hour orientation on August 24, 2012 at 2:00 pm
